Consultations The first step in therapy
is creating a collaborative relationship and identifying
your most pressing issues. We will also begin to define
specific treatment goals and strategies for change. We
will examine whether the best methods of treatment are
individual, family, couples, or combinations of individual
and family.
Individual and family sessions Individual
sessions last 50 minutes and can include discussion, clarification,
reflection, remembering past experiences, and practicing
coping strategies. Children learn strategies for success
and heal their hurts by playing games, drawing, talking,
and other activities. Sometimes the whole family gathers,
to experience a family meeting and to exchange ideas and
get feedback.
Different treatment packages People have
different time-frames for therapy, and insurance reimbursement
is often limited. Based on your needs, I can design a
four-, eight-, or twelve-week treatment plan for you,
or I can provide ongoing therapy. You can continue therapy
even after you complete one or more treatment plans.
Therapeutic Models — I use a variety
of recognized therapeutic styles,
depending upon what an individual or family needs and wants:
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) — thinking about and
coming to recognize behavioral patterns
that may need changing
- Sand tray — building miniature
worlds
- Hypnosis
— allowing one to access inner feelings and competencies
- Mindfulness — becoming aware of triggers and different
moods
Referrals for medication assessment and specialists
Serious depression or attention-deficit disorders
can prevent anyone from living life to the fullest. I
work with experienced psychiatrists who will address your
symptoms to decide whether medication can be effective. My
referral network includes specialists in psychological assessments,
school placement, and biofeedback.
Insurance reimbursement I am an approved
provider with Care First (BlueCross & BlueShield), Magellan,
Ætna, and Tricare.
