Testimonials from Clients
I am someone who has lived most of my life with anxiety. Recently I had to have some minor surgery and my looping anxious thoughts about everything that could go wrong was about to take over my life. I knew I needed help so I contacted Nancy Henningsen. (A friend told me about her web site and miraculously she was in my insurance plan.) She seemed to know exactly what I wanted. We started using this new mindfulness-based therapy which she called ACT. Within a few weeks, I was able to calm myself, remain more in the present, and allow my anxieties to "hang out" in what seemed like the back of my head. Dr. Henningsen called it "the back of my bus." I am learning to practice acceptance and mindfulness daily. I plan to keep with this plan of action although that may not seem like the best word for it. It feels like "non-action." I am grateful for her help. – Jared D.
I came to see Nancy during a very difficult time in my life. Nancy's kindness and compassion provided me with a safe place to begin to address my issues. Her non-judgmental stance allowed me to discuss uncomfortable issues and allowed me to come to my own conclusions in my own time. I will always think of her fondly. – Jennifer J.
Anyone who has ever had a therapist knows that finding a good one is a seemingly impossible task. When I first moved from Virginia to DC and had to leave my old therapist, I dreaded having to start fresh with someone new. There are dozens upon dozens of counselors listed in my health insurance's directory. Whom should I choose? I got fortunate that the person I chose, based largely on location and experience, turned out to be very compatible.
It was apparent from the very first session that Nancy Henningsen is unlike most therapists I've had. Not only did I always receive helpful input, but she offered refreshing perspectives. I tend to go on tangents, but she kept me focused. Nancy provided very constructive criticism without casting an ounce of judgement. She uses various methods and techniques to help her clients, such as the "sand tray therapy" which I found to be both fun and insightful at the same time.
After six months of seeing Nancy, I had made tremendous progress. I truly regret having to leave the DC area but I can take what I have learned from my sessions with Nancy and apply them to my future endeavors. Overall, I believe Nancy to be superior in her profession and I would recommend anyone who seeks a highly qualified counselor to make an appointment with her. – Amaya T. |
